The First 30 Days of a Leadership Reset

Leadership Reset

When you feel stuck in your leadership, everything starts to feel heavy. The meetings, the emails, the decisions, all of it starts to pile up. That’s exactly why The First 30 Days of a Leadership Reset is the turning point so many overwhelmed leaders need. Whether you’re leading a team, a ministry, a business, or even your own family, this 30-day approach will help you breathe again, focus again, and lead with clarity again.

I’ve lived this reset myself. After 30+ years of full-time pastoring and leading, I hit a wall. Physically, emotionally, and mentally, I was done. But I didn’t want to quit leadership. I just needed a new path forward. That’s when I developed what became the core of my coaching: The ABC Growth System, built for people just like me, and maybe just like you, who need structure, clarity, and momentum without adding more noise.

So, what does The First 30 Days of a Leadership Reset look like? Let’s break it down.

Week 1: Pause the Noise

Before you rebuild, you need to slow the spin.

In the first week, your only goal is to create space. Many leaders skip this part because it feels “unproductive.” But doing more won’t fix the feeling of drowning, it only deepens it.

  • Assess your current overload. Where are the fires? Where are the habits that need breaking?
  • Turn off non-essential notifications.
  • Set a boundary around your thinking time, even 15 minutes a day helps.
  • Say “not now” to meetings you don’t absolutely need.
  • Revisit your calendar, and delete anything that doesn’t align with your actual priorities.

This week isn’t about changing the world. It’s about clearing the fog.

Week 2: Rebuild Your Foundation

Now that the noise is quieter, it’s time to rebuild with intention.

Here’s where you introduce the structure that will carry you forward. Using the ABC Growth System, start here:

  • Apps: Choose one primary system to organize your tasks and time. I recommend Trello for task clarity and Apple Calendar for time blocking.
  • Books: Read (or listen to) a book like Essentialism by Greg McKeown to guide your mindset.
  • Coaching: Ask yourself what accountability you’re missing. If no one’s helping you think clearly, you’re not leading, you’re surviving.

During this week, you don’t need to master the systems. You just need to build the scaffolding.

Week 3: Focus on One Win

By now, the urge to jump back into “doing everything” might return. Resist it.

Instead, pick one area, just one, and build a small win. Whether it’s clearing your email backlog, delegating a key project, or finally launching that long-postponed idea, focus all your attention there.

Why? Because progress rebuilds belief.

When leaders feel stuck, it’s not always a strategy issue. More often, it’s a confidence issue. And confidence comes from seeing momentum, not from thinking harder.

Stay narrow. Celebrate that one win.

Week 4: Build for Sustainability

You’re not just hitting reset, you’re laying the groundwork for lasting clarity.

This week is about habits and automation:

  • Block time each week for deep work. Treat it like a meeting you’d never cancel.
  • Use automation tools like IFTTT to reduce repeated digital tasks.
  • Set up weekly reviews using a note-taking tool like Evernote to track your thinking.
  • Identify the 2–3 habits that made this reset possible—and anchor them into your rhythm.

Most importantly, reflect: What’s different today than 30 days ago? How do you feel walking into the next month?

Why 30 Days Works

You might be wondering, “Why 30 days? Why not a weekend reset or a 3-month plan?”

The answer is simple: 30 days is long enough to matter, short enough to manage.

Many of my coaching clients come in burned out because they’ve spent months (or years) trying to fix everything at once. This approach stops the spiral and gives them wins they can build on.

That’s why I built the Reset Sprint—a 30-day guided experience for leaders like you who want support without overwhelm. You don’t need another course or a full-time commitment. You need a clear reset and the support to walk through it.

A Personal Word from My Reset

I didn’t know I was burning out until I couldn’t lead well anymore.

When I stepped away from 30 years of full-time ministry, I had no plan—just the awareness that something had to change. What surprised me most wasn’t the quiet. It was the clarity that started coming back. The more I simplified, the more I could serve with strength again.

That’s what The First 30 Days of a Leadership Reset gave me. And it’s what I believe it can give you, too.

You don’t need a new title. You need a new rhythm. And it can start today.
